CAD/CAM Technician – Cutting Optimization
POSITION OVERVIEW
The person is responsible for the preparation, optimization, and reliability of cutting programs in order to support machine fleet performance. The role acts as a technical link between planning and production operations to ensure a stable, predictable, and efficient workflow.
The position is accountable for the reliability of cutting programs, material optimization, and the impact of decisions on cutting and bending equipment, production lead times, and scrap rates.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Programming and Nesting
- Perform nesting in Radan based on production priorities and manufacturing constraints.
- Optimize material utilization rate, cutting sequences, and machine cycles.
- Adjust programs according to actual manufacturing constraints, including deformation, heat, and cutting sequence.
- Produce reliable and complete machine outputs for the targeted equipment.
Cutting Flow Management
- Prepare batches based on MRP priorities, material availability, and machine constraints.
- Help maintain continuous feeding of critical machines in the cutting sector.
- Reduce machine downtime caused by preparation errors, missing information, or suboptimal sequencing.
Production–Planning Interface
- Collaborate daily with the planner, operations supervisor, and relevant operators.
- Adjust priorities as needed based on urgency, delays, actual capacity, and shop-floor constraints.
- Quickly communicate risks that may affect timelines, material availability, or equipment utilization.
Technical Control
- Verify compliance of files, drawings, dimensions, materials, thicknesses, symbols, and all required data prior to release.
- Prevent machine downtime and production errors through thorough upstream technical validation.
- Document technical discrepancies and follow up with the relevant stakeholders.
Material Management
- Monitor plate inventory and report replenishment needs.
- Prioritize material usage according to production needs and available stock.
- Help reduce losses and scrap related to cutting and nesting decisions.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify material losses, non-productive machine time, and recurring causes of rescheduling.
- Propose concrete and measurable improvements related to nesting, sequencing, and overall sector efficiency.
- Support the integration of new equipment, processes, or work methods as required.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- DEP or DEC in a relevant field such as industrial drafting, mechanical manufacturing, or equivalent training.
- CAD/CAM training or equivalent experience in cutting program development.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in CNC cutting, bending, or production launch contexts.
- Proficiency in Radan or comparable CAD/CAM software; Radan knowledge is a strong asset.
