The design of the Cotech hydraulic thumb for John Deere consists of three sections: the main structure, the hydraulic cylinder, and the interchangeable and adjustable teeth. The bolt-on adjustable teeth allows the thumb to be more effective and it can be tailored to specific working conditions or operator preference. You have the option to vary the length as well as the width and the number of teeth on your thumb. It uses the main axle to pivot, which allows it to follow the movement of the bucket at the teeth or blade level. This facilitates the grabbing and holding of material.

Its narrow structure improves visibility when coupling with an attachment. The cylinder is equipped with an end-of-stroke damper for smooth operation. Like most other Cotech products, it is made from Hardox 450 steel.
